A Three Knock Beginning
What is Masonic Education? Is it Ritual, Tradition, History, Charity, Morals?
In my travels I have discovered it to be all these and much, much more. I
am perplexed however at how differently our Affiliated and Concordant Masonic Bodies gather, process and dispense what we
know as Masonic Education.
In our Blue Lodges
Ritual and Tradition are presented as premier examples of Masonic Education, especially to the Officer Core. But when it comes to making the Blue Lodge experience a little friendlier and acceptable to the general
membership, a degree of Fraternity must be exercised to assure attendance and participation.
In the mission statements of many Shrine of North America Chapters across the continent Fraternity and Charity are
among the first words you will see. However, it is sadly lacking in a commitment
to the rich tradition of their Masonic history.
For me,
Masonic Education began with three knocks on the Lodge Room door. When that door
was opened unto me, I was exposed to four thousand years of Tradition and History. My
Masonic Education has allowed me to help my less fortunate Brothers and those dependent upon them. If am lacking in certain Morals, it is thru Masonic Education that a transformation will occur. I always enjoy watching the new candidates come to our lodge for their first chance to discuss or learn
about the craft. They are always so eager and charged when finished. With a strong desire to experience Fraternity with like minded people from whom I will continue to receive
the important lessons of Ritual, Tradition, History, Charity and Morals. Who
knows, with a little luck I might continue to discover something much, much more.
